Also in Samana is La Churcha. I must confess that one of my most moving memories of the Dominican Republic was a visit to La Churcha. I say that even though I am not a particularly religious person. [below]
There are some beautiful locations to visit which are quite nearby. Las Terrenas is approximately 10 minutes away and is a wonderful Dominican coastal town.
Whale watching in Samana Bay is incredibly popular but can only be enjoyed from January to March. Samana Bay is quite simply one of the very locations in the world for watching humpback whales.[cont right]
Cayo Lavantado [Isla de Cayo Levantado]
This makes for an excellent day trip:
Known for its fantastic beach and and where the bacardi commercial was filmed, a good day is spent whale watching and then getting dropped off at the Isla de Cayo Levantado.
This small island in the Bay is the stuff of legends. Apparently linked to bounty hunters and treasure.
The sand is so white and the turquoise waters crystal clear. It is just how you would imagine a caribbean island to be. It is excellent for swimming and snorkeling. Click here for more on Cayo Levantado including my video of our trip there
Recreational activities
Samana Viva Wyndham [cont]
You`ll be able to enjoy the usual all-inclusive fare within the resort such as daily activities and fitness programs; unlimited non-motorized water sports; water polo, beach volleyball, etc.
For an additional charge you can try scuba diving at the nearby Diving Center (PADI & SSI certificate courses), fishing, snorkeling, horseback riding, windsurfing, kayaking and sailing.
La Churcha is an old church building shipped out all the way from England in 1824. Its purpose was to house the freed North American slave congregation who became the nucleus of the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Click on the link for more about our visit and to see the video
Take a boat trip from Samana to Los Haitises National Park. This is the most popular park in Dominican Republic and you will see everything from Taino paintings to wonderful wildlife.

Bahia De Rincon [check out this beach!
The Bahia de Rincon is located on the north eastern part of the Samana Peninsula. The bay features some of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches in the Caribbean and it also has a beach which Conde Nast magazine rated as the second finest in the entire world!!!
It is unspoilt and gives you an authentic Dominican experience. Click here for more on Bahia de Rincon and its fantastic beach [cont above left
