Cocotal Course Summary

Golf Bavaro When staying at the Melia Tropical Caribe you have the benefit of an excellent golf course in Cocotal.

Now this place is not a `bog standard` resort course. If you have a choice between the Barcelo up the road and this course/resort, and golf is the deciding factor, go for this course.

I`ve played it a few times and as a former `4` handicapper [now alot worse through lack of playing!] I thoroughly enjoyed it.! The course is built on what used to be a coconut plantation.

Trademark features of Cocotal golf course include strategically-placed trees, bunkers, mounds and gently rolling terrain with well-defined and generous fairways without forgetting an unrelenting wind. Golf Punta Cana

The utilization of four sets of tees provides low-handicapped golfers with a course of great challenge, while beginners and intermediate players can continually improve their game in a player-friendly environment.

Distance to the course

The course is over the road from the resort although with fairly long driveways, not everyone would want to walk.

That said, I often did, and walked back!

If you want the shuttle bus it is quite reliable from the hotel. The distance is about that of a par 5.

The course set up

The course is set up as 3 sets of nine holes. These are Hibiscus, Bougainvillea, and Benjamina.

I have attached the 3 cards.

Will golf determine my choice of resort?

If golf is a key factor in your choice of holiday it obviously depends what you are comparing.

If you are comparing between the Sol Melia Tropical Caribe and the Barcelo in Punta Cana, I would have no hesitation in going for the Sol Melia Tropical Caribe. It is by far the most superior course.

Punta cana

Perhaps if you are learning the game you may choose the Barcelo, but not otherwise. Indeed 9 holes of that course will be closed until the end of 2009.

If you are comparing Casa de Campo [in La Romana] and the Sol Melia Tropical Caribe and golf is the deciding factor [and money is not key!], you ought to go for Casa de Campo. Ther you will find 3 fantastic courses in Teeth of the Dog Dye Fore and The Links. Casa de Campo is not for beginners.

Again if you have plenty of cash and want real quality, head south to Cap Cana which features golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus.
