Melia Caribe -RESTAURANTS AND BARS
Melia Caribe Tropical, Bavaro, Dominican Republic -the review
Melia Caribe Tropical- Summary and ConclusionsArrival, Accommodation, Facilities and Kids
As we planned to stay at the Melia Tropical Caribe resort for 2 weeks, we certainly felt that we would be able to find somewhere reasonable to eat given the vast choice. Indeed I don`t recall seeing than about 5 different restaurants in any other Dominican resorts. Even with a fairly `picky` 5 year old we believed that this would give us a good option of finding something that he liked, and so it proved. BUFFET AND GRILL RESTAURANTS
For breakfast you could try an omlette [made whilst you wait, just choose what you want in it]. For lunch there is a good choice including pizzas, salads, pastas, meats seafood etc. It is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The Turey Grill offers a beach side international buffet for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks/sweets. The Agora Grill offers an international buffet for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks/sweets. In the evening, this beach buffet on the Tropical side has seafood/BBQ buffet. At lunch time you will see a BBQ by the beach. You can get burgers, chicken, pork, french fries (they were hot and fresh) etc. A LA CARTE RESTAURANTS There are 10 a la carte air-conditioned restauarants at the Melia Caribe Tropical and they require a reservation. You should book no later than 9:30 in the morning to get your first choice and book the following night at the same time.
Bear in mind that you will also need to be reasonably smartly dressed for these restaurants.
Having been to many all-inclusives in the Dominican Republic, the food holds up very well against the rest.
Having said that, if you are an absolute `foodie` you wil probably find that it is not quite up to the standards that you expect. The Gabi Restaurant is for those on Royal Service [you can pay for a meal if you want]. We heard very good reports about the Gabi Restaurant. You can get breakfast and lunch there with a choice of the buffet, or ordering from the menu. KIDS The kids enjoyed having their own menus every day at each of the restaurants. The a la carte dinner's presentation was amazing and delicious. BARS When I first went to the Melia Caribe Tropical resort it was divided into two, the Caribe and the Tropical. Indeed there are still two two lobby areas.
The local beer is Presidente which stands up well when compared to UK/European beers. For me the local wine is never up to much although I personally will find something else to drink. If you enjoy coctails they will make you pretty much any cocktail that you ask for. FUN PUB There is a Fun Pub which tended to get busy on Friday and Saturday nights. They played a variety of music from North America and also some Carribean. There are plush seats and beds to sit on. FULL LIST OF BARS
