	Flights to the Dominican Republic The Dominican Republic now boasts 10 international airports. There now many flights to the Dominican Republic and most tourism destinations have an airport within less than an hour`s drive but be careful to chose the correct airport for your arrival. On my first trip to Dominican Republic I had booked a two week holiday in Bavaro. I had been busy at work and unable to research the geography of the country. When it came to booking a flight I made this mistake of flying into La Romana when Punta Cana would have been a much better choice. Airport Gregorio Luperon International Airport (POP)also known as Puerto Plata airport. Located in Puerto Plata, it is the Dominican Republic's second largest airport, after Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo. Transfer times This airport will leave a 10- to 45-minute transfer depending on resort location. The airport is located near the little village of El Catey, some 8 km (5 miles) west of Sanchez, at the base of the mountainous peninsula Cape Samana.
