There now many flights to Dominican Republic and most tourism destinations have an airport within less than an hour`s drive but be careful to chose the correct airport for your arrival. On my first trip to Dominican Republic I had booked a two week holiday in Bavaro. I had been busy at work and unable to research the geography of the country. When it came to booking a flight I made this mistake of flying into La Romana when Punta Cana would have been a much better choice. Airport Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP)also known as Puerto Plata airport. Transfer times This airport will leave a 10- to 45-minute transfer depending on resort location. The airport is located near the little village of El Catey, some 8 km (5 miles) west of Sánchez, at the base of the mountainous peninsula Cape Samana. South West Resorts Tourist Resorts Barahona, Pedernales Airport María Montez International Airport (Spanish: Aeropuerto Internacional María Montez) (IATA: BRX, ICAO: MDBH) is an international airport located in Barahona, Dominican Republic. It is named after the late film star Maria Montez, who was born in the province of Barahona. Transfer times 10-40 minutes, depending on resort location.
