Dominican Republic weather
It is warm all year round and a typical day may see the sun all day or a sun/cloud mix. If you are not familiar with the temperatures please be aware that even when it is cloudy the sun can burn you. Most Dominicans stay out of the sun where possible. Summer season May to October are considered the summer months for Dominican Republic weather. This is usually the hottest time of year. Highs reach about 31 degrees [87 degrees Fahrenheit] during the day. At night the low is around 22 degrees c [72 degrees Fahrenheit]. Because of its almost year-round warmth and sunshine, some people refer to the Dominican Republic's climate as"endless summer." Humidity Humidity is higher during May-October and it can feel hotter than it actually is.
Cooler season The cooler season is November through to April while the temperature is at its warmest from May through to October. I have been to the Dominican Republic for New Year and coming from England I can tell you that it was still lovely and warm! Indeed the island experiences its busiest tourist time from December through April. If you are staying in the mountains you may find cooler temperatures than the rest of the island.
May is when the island sees the most rainfall. This is typified by short bursts when the heavens open and it then quickly dries up and is followed by sunshine. Annual rainfall in the Dominican Republic averages about 58.5 inches per year. I can honestly say that I have only had a cancel one round of golf due to the weather.
Temperature in Dominican RepublicThe temperature on the island remains fairly consistent at between 25-28 degrees celsius throughout the year. The change in seasons is determined more by the annual rainfall then by the temperature.
HurricanesDon`t panic about talk of hurricanes !Like other Caribbean Islands, the Dominican Republic weather does demonstrate some hurricane activity. Hurricane season lasts from the beginning of June until the end of November, and the island feels most of the effects in August and September.
I have yet to witness a hurricane in the Dominican Republic although that is not to say that it will never happen. The fact is, if you never got out of bed you would never get anyhere !
