Catalonia Gran Dominicus Sports

Catalonia Gran Dominicus, Bayahibe, Dominican Republic, gym Gym

Catalonia Gran Dominicus Sports starts with the gym.

Even if you start with the best intentions and have lost weight before the vacation, when going to an all-inclusive there is always a tendency to eat and drink too much!!!

I always have a look at the gym before booking and whilst it isn`t a deal breaker, it is useful to know that there is somewhere in which to burn off the calories

I work from the basis that I will not expect too much from an all-inclusive gym, particularly when the resort carries 3 stars.

This particular gym was what I would describe as `tolerable`. The equipment was fairly old and there a smallish selection of aerobic machines.

The one and only treadmill is pictured above and there were perhaps 5 cycling machines.

The gym was open from 8-12 noon and then closed until re-opening from 4-8pm. I found the gap from 12-4pm a bit annoying as it gave the opportunity to get out of the mid-day Caribbean sun.

Catalonia Gran Dominicus, Bayahibe, Dominican Republic, gym The gym was normally quiet. The most that I saw in there were about 3 people at one time.

Tennis

There were 2 tennis courts and they supplied reasonable quality tennis rackets.

You are supposed to book a court although we often turned up at 5pm and had no problem getting a court.

Archery

There was an archery range next to the gym. This looked to be quite good fun although we didn`t try it.

Soccer [football]

Next to the archery range there is a 5 a-side soccer pitch although it didn`t seem to be in good condition and we didn`t see it used during our stay.

As the Catalonia attracts many Italian visitors to the Bayahibe area, you would expect some soccer and this mainly takes place on the beach pitch!

The below video gives some idea of the sports facilities.

NB:after starting the movie, the `HQ` button will appear in the right hand corner. If you click on it it will give a higher quality picture but this is dependent on your internet connection].

Diving

There is a dive centre and they provide a free introductory lesson.

They also advise on PADI courses and snorkelling.

Deep sea fishing

You can book this from the beach. Go to the where you get the beach towels from and there is a separate place to book deep sea fishing. Just ask for Franklin, he will sort it out and speaks good English.

You can book deep sea fishing for 4 hours for 120US per person. This includes all equipment and at the time we in the Dominican Republic [April/May] blue marlin and white tuna were on the menu.

Beach sports

The activities team provided lots of the usual activities such as beach volleyball, beach soccer, french bowls, table tennis etc.

There is no pressure, you can take it or leave it.

All-inclusive sports

Included in your all-inclusive package are as follows:

  1. Kayaks [single and double]
  2. Snorkelling [mask, snorkel and fins included [30US deposit]
