Catalonia Gran Dominicus interview Yaneris

At www.dominican-republic-holiday.com we like to interview local people to find out more about the country.

Here Ashers interviews Yaneris who works at the Merenguero bar at the Catalonia Gran Dominicus in Bayahibe, Dominican Republic.

Yaneris and her colleagues worked incredibly hard to look after the needs of their customers yet she was always smiling in the way that only Dominican can!

The interview is in Spanish but the English transcription is below:

Q] So what time do you have to get up each day?
A] At 5 in the morning.

Q] At 5am??!!
A At 5am, to arrive here at 6.30am, to start working at 7am to prepare the bar for an 8am opening, and I finish at 3.30 in the afternoon.

Q] At 3pm, OK. And what are the requirements for the workers here, what do you need above all, what do they look for in you?
A] OK they look for someone who is keen to work, who likes to work, who can be pleasant to the people that come here, that they have a good feeling about all they do so that they can do their work well.

Q] And languages? Have you studied languages for example?
A] Well the basics so that I can offer service in the various languages, yes.

Q] Would you mind telling us a bit about your life and your family? This would be interesting for those watching.
A] My family consists of my mother, I have 4 brothers, I have an 11-year-old son. I live with my husband. We are a small family but all is well with us. They help me every day so that I can come to work. [cont below]

Q] So the scheduling of the work -you work for a certain number of days, and then you have some free days, how does it work?
A] We work for 11 or 12 days straight, then we have 3 consecutive days off.

Q] And the exchanges with the foreigners, like us, how does that go?
A] This is really nice, because there is a spectacular difference in culture. This is the part that I like the most, introducing the foreigner to local customs, and to learn about them too.

Q] And from which countries do the majority of them come.
A] Italians and French. Yes, the majority.

Q] So the British are in the minority?
A] In the minority, yes.

Q] Well Yaneris very many thanks, it has been a great pleasure to meet you.
A] Thanks to you Andy, a pleasure for me too.
