Catalonia Bavaro Beach Golf [Cabeza de Toro golf course]

The Catalonia golf course [Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf] is part of the Hotel Catalonia Bavaro in Punta Cana near the sea.

There is sometimes confusion about Catalonia golf courses in Bavaro. In fact there are two courses which are both owned by the same company.

The Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf is a 9 hole golf course with a pitch and putt par 3. It is located right next to the Catalonia Bavaro resort.

The Catalonia Caribe is an 18 hole course.

It is really a `nice` little resort course. The sort of place that you can escape from your partner for a few hours [!] and keep your
swing in tune.

It was quite quiet and my step-son really enjoyed the opportunity of driving the golf cart!

I used to play a lot of golf and reached the dizzy heights of a `4` handicap back in 1979!

I only wish that the photo below had been taken after the ball had gone, not merely after the practice swing!

Sadly, since then the reality of life kicked in and I don`t play very often these days. I do however enjoy playing in the Caribbean climate in the DR and having played most of the best courses over there, I was a little disappointed with this 9 hole course when I first saw it.

That said, it grew on me as the vacation went on. When I was there it was in reasonable condition and was fairly empty.

The holes were shortish with just the one par five, 6 par fours and 2 par threes. I think this was what initially disappointed me as I do like to open my shoulders and give it a good wack!

I recall that it was fairly tight and I only used my driver on one hole per round. [cont left]

On reflection however there were some very good holes and I could see that that it would be an enjoyable course for the following:

1. People who want to swing a club during a 2 week vacation

2. Couples who like to see each other during the game

3. Someone who doesn`t play that often but enjoys a game whilst away.

4. Those for whom 2 weeks with their partner is just too long at one stretch!

Location and facilities

It is 22 km from Punta Cana Airport. You drive towards Bavaro, turn right to the "Catalonia Hotel" and keep going for about 1 km.

Facilities include bar, lockers, Pro Shop, rental and driving Range.
