Casa de Campo Dominican Republic

Casa de Campo Casa de Campo Dominican republic is located an hour and a half's drive east of Santo Domingo and is about a 10 minutes drive from La Romana city on the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic.

It was developed from land which was originally part of Central Romana sugar mill's land. Casa de Campo (Spanish for "Country House") is a Ponderosa-style, tropical seaside resort.

Casa De Campo is a private world class resort that covers over 7000 acres. It encompasses a private white sand beach, brand new marina, 3 outstanding golf courses, tennis, equestrian facilities, shooting club, fitness, spa, restaurants, lounges, and dance clubs.

Casa de Campo Dominican Republic has an overwhelming feeling of exclusivity, and is one of the very best resorts in the whole of the Caribbean. Loved by the creme de la creme of the jet- set world, the area has around 1,600 villa owners and the 140,000 guests per year.

For all of its activities, including golf, deep sea fishing, water sports, skeet shooting, and horseback riding, Casa de Campo offers an unhurried atmosphere. Casa de Campo Considered one of the top golf and vacation resorts in the Caribbean. It is as much retreat as it is resort and here there are no crowds.

Golf at Casa de campo Dominican Republic

This resort is renowned for some spectacular golf courses designed by the legendary golf course designer Pete Dye. In my humble view [as an ex-4 handicapper from years ago!], the Dominican Republic is one of the most under rated destinations in the world of golf.

World renowned golf architect Pete Dye has designed several golf courses in the Dominican Republic and one of the unquestionably best courses in the world is located in Casa de Campo.

The `Teeth of the Dog` [for more info click here], which opened in opened in 1971, was fashioned through the jungle and along a rocky coast. It remains the only Caribbean course consistently in the world top 100 courses (usually in the top 50). Teeth of the Dog, Casa de Campo Dominican Republic

Other courses in Casa de Campo include the The Links Course [for more info click here] and Pete Dyes newest course, is the much-acclaimed Dye Fore [for more info click here].

Dye Fore has spectacular views and sits atop cliffs 300 feet (91 m) above the Chavon River, with views of the village of Altos de Chavon, distant mountains and the new marina.

Golf Tournaments held at Casa de campo Dominican Republic

The Eisenhower Trophy is a biennial world amateur team golf championship for men organized by the International Golf Federation. It is named for Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President of the United States when the tournament was first played, who was a keen amateur golfer. It was played at Casa de Campo in 1974 and won by the USA with a team that included Curtis Strange and Jerry Pate.

Golf Learning Centre

Casa de campo Dominican Republic is forever improving and in the pipeline is a golf learning centre to be situated left of the 10th and 18th holes of the Teeth. Golf instructors from around the world will be invited to bring their students to the resort and to instruct them at the learning centre. This program has already begun, as several pros from the US have brought their students in to teach them at the existing driving range. When the new facility is completed, much more comprehensive instruction will be achievable.

La Minitas Beach is kept in excellent condition and it is the nearest to Casa de Campo. You will find a selection of bars and restaurants nearby.

Playa Dominicus Casa de Campo is also about a 25 minute drive from Dominicus and Bayahibe beaches so if you are feeling a bit more adventurous or just want to try another beach you could take a trip to either of these beaches.

Playa Dominicus was the first beach in the Caribbean to have Blue Flag status (an eco-label showing high honors in a beach's commitment to sustainable development].

Located near Bayahibe, it is popular with scuba divers due to the presence of a large reef.

Playa Dominicus is bordered by several all inclusive resorts

Scuba diving

Scuba diving is very popular in this area whether you are a serious scuba diver or just want to learn. All resorts have dive centres staffed with highly qualified personnel offering PADI training. Sometimes they offer a free introductory lesson in the swimming pool.

There are also diving schools in Bayahibe which acts as a departure point for many trips.

Catalina Island is best appreciated by experienced divers. There the "wall" attracts vacationers from La Romana resorts but also divers from throughout the Domiican Republic. Only 20 minutes by boat from La Romana, it is one of the few places to see very large fish, such as grouper. Catalina's shallower dive of about 25-30 feet off the island is simply beautiful. An abundance of purple sea fans, orange, brown and grey gardens, and a variety of multi-coloured, fluorescent fish surround divers as they wander about. There is excellent visibility of 90-100 feet and good light refraction. Sadly most of the big species around the island's popular coral reefs have been depleted by intensive spear fishing.

Near to La Romana is Bayahibe where large schools of fish are accustomed to bread feedings from local divers. Just waving a white glove will produce a flurry of activity. This practice is being discouraged by ecologically-minded people as it reduces the survival instincts of the fish, and disrupts the food chain.

Fishing

Fishing trips can be arranged at the major hotels and you can get to grips with barracuda, tuna or dorado.

Horseback Riding

Casa de Campos Equestrian Center offers excellent riding. Another good option is Rancho Cumayasa. Or the Guavaberry Equestrian Center in Juan Dolio.

Shooting

A little known but very popular attraction at Casa de Campo is the resort's Shooting Center. It is a large facility with trap, skeet and sporting clays in addition to new feature - night lights that allow golfers to play golf during the day and shoot at night!
