Bavaro beach -1

Bavaro Beach

The photo`s of the Playa de Bavaro were certainly one the main reasons that I first visited the Dominican Republic.

The enchanting images of white sands, palm trees, turquoise sea, and blue skies were my view of a Caribbean paradise.

I have been fortunate to have stayed at all inclusives resorts along the coast of Bavaro. My first experience was the Melia Caribe Tropical All Inclusive Beach & Golf Resort in Punta Cana, which has its own stretch of Bavaro beach. [cont below]

For my next trip I chose the Catalonia Royal Bavaro. The photo above right was taken by me and as you can see, the beach stretches for miles.

The Catalonia Royal Bavaro was to the south of the Melia Tropical Caribe and whilst I had no complaints about the sea water at the MTC,
when you are in Bavaro, the water is a little calmer to the south.

Can you choose a poor beach in Bavaro?

Not really, all the beaches on the stretch of coastline are superb. All that you have to watch out for is whether they are regularly
cleaned.

If they are not they can accumulate sea weed which is a bit of an irritation if the resort next door is keeping theirs clean! [cont left]

The map right gives the locations of the public beaches. Check out where they are in relation to some of the better known resorts.

Bavaro
You can go to the Bavaro beach itself by accessing aside the Barcelo beach resort. Look out for the entrance road by the sign for "Jellyfish restaurant".

It is an excellent beach area and calm water.

There are beaches with access from public roads at Cabeza de Toro, El Cortecito and Macao.

El Cortecito

With of this area being dominated by large all inclusive resorts, El Cortecito is the nearest thing to a beach town in the area.

It has a public beach area with some excellent seafood restaurants, bars and shops selling souvenirs arts and crafts.[cont right]

El Cortecito`s beach [Playa Cortecito] is accessible to everyone and once you are on the sand you can walk to the beach areas of the resorts although you are not suppose to enter resort property beyond the beach.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants around and probably the best known is restaurant in El Cortecito is the "Capitan Cook" where you can eat lobster and fresh fish all year round.

Cabeza de Toro

Cabeza de Toro is another free beach which is walkable from El Cortecito. It is quieter and not crowded.

This area of white sands is adjacent to the Cabeza de Toro Yacht Club which is used for
 summer fishing tournaments.
